Montford Challenge Row
A competitive row on the River Severn in Shropshire

MONTFORD CHALLENGE ROW ;

 On a glorious morning on Saturday, 19th March, 3 Celtic boats - one men's crew and two ladies crews- took to the road to travel to Shrewsbury for the club`s first competitive row in two years , (ie due to the pandemic ).

The Montford Challenge Row is a river race from Shrewsbury along the River Severn through wonderful Shropshire countryside ( not that the crews had much time to take it in !!) up to Montford Bridge & back , a total of about sixteen miles.

All previous years' reports proved correct  - it was at times a quite brutal race for all crews with the outward eight miles into a very strong current & strong wind .

All three crews aquitted themselves really well , including those members who experienced their first ever race - they were all brilliant .Special congratulations to our ARC ladies crew of Claire ,Elin ,Isabel ,Gail & Olivia - who won their category

The race was organised by Shropshire Adventurers Rowing Club (SARC) , they did a brilliant job,  very accommodating and all very helpful . The day culminated with a lovely hot chilli meal which was enjoyed by all , again provided by SARC members .

Despite being a very long day, leaving Aberdyfi for some at 6.30am & getting home at about 8pm , everyone commented on how wonderful & enjoyable the whole day was - well done everyone who took part .

report from our chairman Mike Rogers.
