New sculling boat for our club
A generous donation from local retired sports teacher Mrs Buddug Llwyd-Jones.

Thanks to a vey generous donation from Mrs Buddug Llwyd-Jones-retired sports teacher from Tywyn school- our club ha now acquired a new single sculling boat that meets specifications for national and international coastal rowing competition

Our Chairman Mike Rogers said.” We are thrilled with the new boat - 'Buddug Llwyd' . Our club is keen to ensure that members are provided with the best possible equipment available and this has become even more important now that Tim Chesworth, 25, is training hard to try and attain the required times and standards to join the Welsh Rowing squad. Tim is currently training here and also attending sessions with Welsh Rowing in South Wales.”

"Obviously these specialised training boats come at a cost and the club was delighted to receive a very generous contribution towards this from Mrs Buddug Llwyd-Jones. Mrs Llwyd-Jones has always supported the continuing development of sport for young people in Wales and Aberdyfi Rowing Club is very grateful to her for her donation which has enabled us to purchase the very latest "Swift Racing Club performance 2 FISA Coastal Single sculling boat."

Alun Stedman, British Rowing coach and one of our coaches here at the club said," For aspiring club members wanting to row at international level the route is to first qualify for Wales which allows you to row in international events. To compete at the World championship rowers that do well in the British Championship will be selected to represent Great Britain at the Championship. The next scheduled Championship is in Portugal in October .  In 2022 this will be held for the first time in Wales. Many countires will have full time athlertes and Olympians competing at such an event."

" Tim has shown the ability and attitude that makes him a potential competitor at these events. This new boat will hopefully enable him, and other interested local rowers, to achieve this. “

Tim added, “ I am really looking forward to continuing my training in our new boat and we are all very grateful to Mrs Buddug Llwyd-Jones for her contribution towards buying such a great sculling boat. We would love to encourage new young rowers and hopefully this boat will be an incentive for people to get out on the water and have a go at sculling!"
