A great day of racing again at Beaumaris ... see Nigel's report....
"No ladies able to race at Beaumaris this time so one men's team went from Aberdyfi consisting of cox – Ian Brown; Stroke Tim Chesworth; Two – Nigel Pearson three- Mike Rogers and bow Paul Cruickshank.
We entered in the senior men’s category.
Weather was sunny but there was a strong wind blowing from the west and not much tide to
speak of.
The first leg was against the wind and after about 10 minutes our crew and two Ynys Mon
boats were ahead of the pack by a fair margin.
We were third up to the buoy but we challenged Ynys Mon a couple of times.
We had a very good buoy turn and then we started to speed up with the wind and slight swell behind
us.
Conditions were similar to those on the Dyfi estuary and practice going up and down the river paid off on this occasion.
We caught up and passed the Ynys Mon senior team after about 10 minutes on the second leg.
We did not manage to catch their vets' team who were first overall.
The result was that we won the men's senior category.
Well done to the team for a great performance and thank you to Beaumaris rowing club for their great hospitality. |
