We are all very sad to hear that one of our members - Nigel Scott- lost his three year battle with Prostate cancer and died peacefully at home in Oxfordshire on Tuesday, November 3rd.
Nigel joined ARC in 2007 on the same day as Ron Franks - another well loved member who sadly lost to Prostate cancer in 2013. Nigel was Bosun and Treasurer during Ron's time as Chairman so they both worked closely together and became very good friends.
Nigel was a very keen and enthusiastic member of our club, who loved rowing both socially and competitively and was part of the crew who won the Pembrokeshire category at the London GRR in 2007. He competed several times in the GRR and many times in our league races.
Although Aberdyfi was not Nigel's main home, it seemed to be that way as he spent so much
time here... in fact the boatshed was his second home... it was rare to walk past on a sunny day and not see Nigel there, doing something or other in the boatshed, or just enjoying the view of the estuary!
Nigel left Aberdyfi around 2011, but members who knew him have lots of memories of Nigel- he was quite a character! His name is still quite often mentioned in general conversation, and will continue to be mentioned.
Both Ron and Nigel are very much missed from our boatshed in Aberdyfi, but as Sally - Ron's wife- said today...' 'They will now both be tinkering away in a boatshed somewhere,' or perhaps arguing about who is going to row in bow- the favourite seat for both of them!
Our thoughts are with Nigel's family at this sad time....
