Congratulations to our sculling quad crew of Dai, Javi, Richard, Neil and cox Veronica who travelled to Scotland to take part in the 'Monster the Loch' challenge , held on Loch Ness on Saturday, September 6th
This amazing challenge involves rowing from one end of the Loch to the other - a distance of about 22 miles.
Quad crew member Dai said, " This is a really tough challenge - a real test of endurance rowing, but I am pleased to say we completed the race in 3 hours and 6 minutes, coming 23rd out of 124 entries and rowing 5.500 strokes!
Conditions on the day were pretty good , with calm water and occasionally a light breeze which helped everyone. We were able to row really well and are pleased with our result.
However we all agree that because of the distance involved more endurance training is needed and also some coaching, to ensure we can scull competitvely for 3 hours.
It took a bit of an effort for us all to get up to Scotland- about ten hours driving time - and then an unexpected drawback on arrival was having to cope with the midges!
That was all forgotten very quickly though, as the location is wonderful, the senery is beautiful, the hospitality and organisation by the local hosts was excellent and there was great morale and positive vibes both within our crew and amongst all the other competitors.
We had a brilliant time over the few days we were there and are already planning to enter again next year.
last year we had two boats entered - a double scull and a single - maybe next year we can enter a full compliment of A.R.C. boats and crews , both Celtics and sculls.
Thanks to everyone for their support over the weekend - especially to our chief supporters at Loch Ness- Amanda and of course our faithful friend Winnie!
We definitely want to return next year, fully prepared to challenge the Monster of the Loch again!
